What is Scalloping?

Scalloping is a term used to describe the harvest of bay scallops from our local bay waters. Scalloping is very popular in Homosassa. People want to be on the water in the summer months and scalloping is the perfect recreation for this time of year! Scalloping season runs from July 1st until September 24th.

Scalloping is enjoyed by all ages and requires only average swimming skills, a mask, snorkel and fins. A small net can be used to collect your scallops. And if you’ve never tasted a bay scallop, you’re in for a sweet treat!
